THE PERAMYDS TEXT
Al-Ahram Texts
A collection of ancient Egyptian religious texts dating back to the Old Kingdom
The Pyramid Texts or the Pyramid Texts are a group of ancient Egyptian religious texts that date back to the era of the Old Kingdom, and they are the oldest known religious texts in the world. The texts of the pyramids were carved in the ancient Egyptian language on the walls of the pyramids and sarcophagi in the pyramids of Saqqara during the eras of the Fifth and Sixth Dynasties. The date of the oldest of these texts dates back to between 2400-2300 BC. In contrast to the texts of coffins and the Book of the Dead, the texts of the pyramids were used only for the pharaohs. After the Palermo Stone, the Pyramid Texts are the second oldest to mention Osiris, who became the most important deity of the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion. The purpose of the Pyramid Texts is to protect the body of the pharaoh, to revive his body after death and to help him reach heaven in his afterlife. It is also used to ask the gods for help.
